Currently, the center is hosting one of the most famous and even controversial traveling exhibits of the world called Body Worlds. The exhibit was conceptualized by German anatomist Gunther von Hagens and displays the actual preserved human bodies for educational purposes.

Portland Science Center Presents Body Worlds

The exhibit can teach a great deal about the subject of anatomy including longevity, aging, cardiology and neuroscience. The show educates the public about the functioning of the human body and provides an understanding of what lies beneath the skin. You can see real human bodies which have been donated willingly by people to be put up in the exhibit.

Body Worlds at Portland Science Museum

Portland Science Center is an ideal "edutainment" destination extending over 15,000 square feet of space and home to some of the most exciting and successful exhibitions in Maine and Northern New England.

You can experience explorative and inspiring world-famous exhibitions in the cultural hub of Maine just like in the case of Body Worlds. The exhibit will run from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm from Mondays to Thursday and Sunday and 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Friday and Saturday.

The Portland Science Center is managed by a Massachusetts-based organization called The Gold Group who organizes educational exhibits. The group has also hosted other exhibits in big cities like “Pompeii,” “Sea Monsters Revealed” and “Dead Sea Scrolls." The group plans to arrange two exhibits each year in Portland.

The Portland Science Center can be found at 68 Commercial St., located on Maine Wharf. You have to cross one wharf west of the Maine State Pier to find the science center.
